Steph Curry Sets Documentary ‘Sentenced’ at Peacock

NBA Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has set another project at NBCUniversal’s Peacock, and this one is personal.

Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry are producing a new documentary called Sentenced for the streaming service, “an immersive and vulnerable exploration of the epidemic of childhood illiteracy through a series of braided character driven stories.” Each story is filmed from the point of view of a different person who never learned how to read.

Literacy is an issue that the Currys have tackled through their Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. The documentary will bring more awareness to the issue, and the impact it can have on children and families.

“Nothing is more foundational, or more important to a child’s success in life than the ability to learn and love to read,” Stephen and Ayesha Curry said in a statement. “When that is missing, you take away the opportunity for an individual to meet their full potential, which is what is displayed in Sentenced. We’re grateful for the group of filmmakers and activists involved in this film who share a common goal of promoting literacy and changing these outcomes and inequities that exist.”

Sentenced is produced for Peacock by Curry’s Unanimous Media, with Unanimous president Erick Peyton also serving as an executive producer. The documentary is available on the platform as of today.

Sentenced is a moving documentary that we at Unanimous Media are proud to be a part of, taking viewers through the vulnerable stories of diverse individuals who never learned to read,” Peyton said. “It’s our hope that projects like Sentenced continue to use the power of storytelling to drive impact and systemic change.”

Curry is currently starring in the comedy seriesMr. Throwback for Peacock. That series is also produced by Unanimous. Curry told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month that he wants to significantly expand his work in the entertainment industry over time, not only by producing new projects through Unanimous, but also getting more time in front of the camera.

“My wife, she’s been an actress for the longest time,” Curry said. “She did a movie last year with Lindsay Lohan [Netflix’s Irish Wish]. She was encouraging me to go on this journey, so when I’m done playing, I’m hoping that there’s more opportunities to kind of expand there in front of the camera.”

Peyton said that Unanimous has a number of projects in the works, including docs, but also a golf concept, and some altcast ideas for live sports.
