A lot has changed in the past few seasons for the Golden State Warriors and their star player Stephen Curry.
Klay Thompson, Curry’s brother and longtime teammate, has said goodbye to Golden State, moving to play for the Dallas Mavericks.
Another veteran name who also left the team after many years of association is technical director Bob Myers. He was the chief architect who created the “empire” Warriors that won 4 championships in 8 years with players like Curry, Thompson, Draymond Green and Iguodala.
Entering the 16th season of his career with many fluctuations in the surrounding environment, Stephen Curry decided to choose silence for himself.
After a successful Olympic campaign with a gold medal with the US basketball team, Curry extended his contract with Golden State to stay with the team through the 2026-27 season.
The 1988-born guard’s goals have not changed. He wants to stay with the Golden State Warriors, maintain competition at a high level and be determined to win a championship with the team that selected him in the NBA Draft 15 years ago.
“I want to play my entire career with the Warriors and at the same time continue to play at the highest level. That has been, is and will be my goal until I retire,” Stephen Curry shared.
The decision to extend with the Warriors has helped Stephen Curry gain more points in the hearts of fans, putting to rest all rumors about him considering saying goodbye to Golden State.
Speaking more about this move, the Golden State captain said he proactively renewed his contract earlier to keep the team focused before the new season, avoiding being distracted by rumors or information related to transfers:
“I wanted to make the decision to extend my contract 1 year early so that the whole world knows my intentions with the team, and at the same time I don’t want my future to be discussed for the whole next year, creating distraction for myself and my teammates.”
“No matter what happens this season, next season or the year after, all my strength and energy will be focused on playing at the highest level.
I am ready to do everything I can to help the team win and achieve success. This is how I look forward to the next 3 years with the club, hopefully the results will satisfy everyone,” the Golden State Warriors’ No. 1 star added.
After parting ways with Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors have attempted to fill the void left by signing two new contracts. They recruited guard Kyle Anderson and signed three-point shooter Buddy Hield.
However, the Warriors missed out on an important target, Paul George, the all-round offensive and defensive star who left the LA Clippers to move to the Philadelphia 76ers. However, Stephen Curry is still positive about the squad that Golden State has, looking forward to the new season with high spirits:
“I am confident in my decision and confident in the team. I believe we can still become a strong and competitive team.”
This weekend, Stephen Curry and his teammates will have their first preseason friendly match against the LA Clippers on October 6. Then they have a pair of matches against the Sacramento Kings on October 10 and October 12.
The Warriors’ friendly series will conclude with two matches against the Los Angeles Lakers, taking place at 9:00 a.m. on October 16 and 9:30 a.m. on October 19, respectively.
