At WrestleMania 28, John Cena faced The Rock in a singles match in the main event of the show, where Cena suffered a loss after a hard fought match. In the same way, Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 39 in a high-stake main event match. Both Rock and Roman belong to the Anoa’i family who were heel, whereas Cena and Cody were the greatest babyfaces.

After suffering a major loss, both got attacked by Brock Lesnar the night after WrestleMania. John Cena was confronted by the returning Brock Lesnar, who shook his hands with Cena and performed a F5. On the other hand, Lesnar acted like teaming up with Cody and performed an F5 before the match.

After entering into the feud with Brock Lesnar, both John Cena & Cody Rhodes pinned Brock Lesnar to win their match. John Cena defeated Lesnar in an extreme rules match at Extreme Rules 2012. Whereas, Cody has a three series match with Lesnar, in which Cody won the first and second match to defeat Lesnar.

Both Cena and Rhodes won the Royal Rumble match the next year and earned a title shot to get a rematch against their biggest rival at WrestleMania. In 2013, Cena won the Royal Rumble match to face Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 28 and won the rematch to become the champion. On the other hand, in 2024 Cody won the Royal Rumble match for the second time and faced Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship to dethrone Roman and win the WWE title.

After holding the title both got fooled by a fake retirement angle by their opponents to earn a title shot. In June 2013, Mark Henry played the fake retirement angle on Cena and attacked him to earn the title shot. On the other hand, AJ Styles played the fake retirement angle and attacked Cody to earn a title shot.
