 Who is Tyson Fury?

The man whom everyone in the boxing circuit regards as the ‘Gypsy King’ was born on the 12th of August in 1988. Tyson was born 3 months before schedule, coming in at a mere 1lb. His chances of survival were extremely low.

However, he survived. His father named him after the legendary Mike Tyson. The Englishman followed in his American namesake and father’s footsteps into the boxing ring.

Tyson Fury’s family and early life

Tyson Fury’s father, John Fury, was previously married to Amber Fury. They had four children – Tyson, his brother Shane Fury, a Heavyweight boxer, and Hugh Fury. The fourth child, Ramona Fury, sadly passed away a few months after her birth.

Tyson Fury’s father, John Fury, was previously married to Amber Fury. They had four children – Tyson, his brother Shane Fury, a Heavyweight boxer, and Hugh Fury. The fourth child, Ramona Fury, sadly passed away a few months after her birth.

Through John Fury’s second marriage to Chantal, who has Mauritian ancestry, Tyson Fury is a half-brother to Tommy Fury, Roman Fury, a Cruiserweight contender, and John Fury Jr., reportedly an amateur boxer.

‘The Gypsy King’ was born on 12th August 1988. He grew up in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester, England. From an early age, he showed an aptitude for boxing. Hailing from an Irish traveling family, and a long bloodline of fighters, some would say Tyson choosing the ‘sweet science’ as his profession was inevitable. He began boxing at the age of ten, thriving under the guidance of his father. With John Fury championing him, Tyson did quite well in his amateur career. He became the EU Junior Champion in May 2007 and ABA national champion in 2008, before turning professional at the age of 20.

Tyson Fury’s wife and children

Tyson Fury and his wife, Paris Fury’s fairytale romance, began during their teenage years when he was seventeen and she was fifteen. Finally, in 2008, roughly a year after they started going out, the future Heavyweight champion and Paris walked down the aisle together at the Catholic church in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, St. Peter in Chains.

During the last fifteen years of togetherness, the couple have become proud parents of four boys and three girls. Their eldest child is 13-year-old Venezuela. She is followed by Prince John James, who is eleven.

Born in July 2016, Prince Tyson II is the couple’s third child. 5-year-old Valencia, Tyson Fury’s second daughter, follows him. She would be turning six by December of this year. In 2019, The Gypsy King and Paris Fury welcomed their fifth child, their third son, Prince Adonis Amaziah, who is 4 years old.

Two months before the Deontay Wilder trilogy fight, Tyson Fury introduced his sixth child and third daughter, Athena, to the world. The youngest member of the Fury family turned two in August this year.

Last month, on September 18, Tyson and Paris Fury welcomed the birth of their seventh child, a baby boy. Early this month, the proud parents shared his name with the world – Prince Rico Paris Fury.

Tyson Fury’s career timeline

Fury made his professional debut in December 2008. He took on Bela Gyongyosi in his first outing as a professional. The preliminary card bout ended with Fury dropping his Hungarian opponent in the first round with a lethal combination to the head and the body.

After winning  English, British, and Commonwealth titles, Tyson Fury, with his rangy and unorthodox fighting style, reached the top of the heavyweight division in 2015 after defeating the 11-year unbeaten Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko to become the unified world heavyweight champion. However following his win over Klitschko, he struggled with depression forcing him to take a hiatus of three years.

He came back in action in 2018, notching up easy wins against Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta. In the same year, he also drew a fight for the first time against Deontay Wilder. However, his stupefying performance earned him a rematch. He won the WBC title after having bulldozed through Deontay Wilder in 2020. This saw him become a two-time world heavyweight champion.

Moreover, Fury added another spectacular victory to his resume by defeating Wilder in their highly anticipated trilogy fight in October 2021. After 10 rounds of war, ‘The Gypsy King’ finally put his rivalry with the ‘Bronze Bomber’ to rest via T/KO in the 11th round.

After beating Wilder, Fury demolished longtime WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte on April 23, 2022. And in December, he defended his WBC heavyweight title against Derek Chisora in a trilogy showdown.

‘The Gypsy King’ has amassed an astonishing record of 24 wins by T/KO in 34 professional fights.

Then came the mega clash between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. This highly anticipated bout came months after fans and followers learned of the Cameroonian-American mixed martial artist’s departure from UFC.

In a shocking display, Tyson was barely able to defeat Francis Ngannou as the former was even made to taste the canvas by the MMA sensation. The crossover boxing bout made a huge dent in Fury’s reputation, even though he secured a split-decision victory.

He is currently set to face Oleksandr Usyk for an undisputed heavyweight fight.

 Tyson Fury’s charity and foundation

Philanthropy comes to Tyson Fury as naturally as a jab or a hook. He is well known to open up his heart and wallet to the less fortunate and in need. Following his first fight against Deontay Wilder, Fury claimed to have donated his entire fight purse to charitable organizations in the UK. This was because he wanted to direct the finances toward the construction of homes for alcohol and drug addicts.

In another incident in 2022, after fight negotiations with Anthony Joshua collapsed, Fury’s promoter Frank Warren had to pay up after losing a bet against the ’Gypsy King’. Fury was convinced that Joshua wouldn’t sign the dotted line and ended up staking £10,000. Eventually, he ended up donating his winnings from the bet to a charity called DEBRA which looks after people suffering from Epidermolysis Bullosa – a painful genetic skin blister condition.

Tyson Fury also has his foundation called the Tyson Fury Foundation.

Tyson Fury’s house

The WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has spent a fortune on buying properties spread across Europe as well as the United States. Starting with his home base, Morecambe, UK, Fury has a £1.7m property overlooking the seaside. The sprawling mansion, which features heavily in the Netflix documentary  At Home With The Furys, is decked up with gold chandeliers, marble-topped counters, and a grand piano. The property also boasts a water fountain and a mini-playground with the “Gypsy King” logo painted on the floor.

Reportedly, Tyson Fury moved into the mansion with his family from a five-bed, four-bathroom Lancashire home, estimated to be worth around £550,000, in 2021. This property also had lavish decorations which included gold curtains, and a gold-framed Versace mirror. Moreover, Oil paintings, large photos of Fury in action, and a trophy cabinet adorned the walls of the beautiful home.

Another acquisition befitting Fury’s luxury lifestyle is the white-cobbled mansion in Marbella estimated to be worth around $ 6 Million. According to the Mirror, the luxurious property has columns, large windows, and loads of palm trees.

Last but not least, is his stunning mansion in Las Vegas, which is used by the Fury family when the ‘Gypsy King’ comes to fight in the United States.  Reportedly, Fury allows his coach to live in that property rent-free.
