The spotlight is always on LeBron James, and Saturday Night Live had some fun at the Los Angeles Lakers’ star’s expense during its latest episode.

“LeBron James and his son, Bronny, made history when they became the first-ever father-son duo to play an NBA game together,” Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said. “But there was some confusion when LeBron called a timeout and his son went and stood in the corner.”

The pair played together during the Lakers’ preseason game against the Phoenix Suns last Sunday.

While it was just a preseason game, it was still a historic moment as the father-son duo played together at the sport’s highest level. They joined Ted and Charlie Nesser (NFL), Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. (MLB), Tim Raines Sr. and Jr. (MLB), and Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe (NHL) as father and son teammates in American professional sports.

Phoenix ended up winning that game 118-114 as the elder James finished with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks. His son went scoreless in 13 minutes off the bench.

Lakers and NBA fans alike are surely excited about the possibility of the father-son duo playing together during the regular season, although it remains to be seen how much of a role Bronny will have in the team’s rotation.

After all, the second-round pick has struggled in the preseason and was largely just a role player during his one season at USC while averaging 4.8 points per game.

He and his father likely won’t play many minutes together as the Lakers look to compete in the Western Conference, but there will surely be a moment when head coach JJ Redick gets them together on the court.
