A lot of people were looking forward to the Los Angeles Lakers’ first preseason game of the 2024-25 campaign to see Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, play against NBA competition for the first time.
He got into the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and played 16 minutes off the bench, and he struggled, going 1-of-6 from the field. However, he was able to serve up a notable highlight.
Early in the second quarter, the Timberwolves had a fast-break opportunity that saw Nickeil Alexander-Walker make his way to the hoop for what seemed to be a sure layup. But the younger James went in pursuit and did a nice imitation of his father by blocking that layup attempt.
It was actually one of three blocks that the younger James had in the game.
Defense is indeed perhaps his one strength that could be at least somewhat NBA-ready. The rest of his game is very much a work in progress, and just about everyone expects him to spend a considerable amount of time in the G League to hone his skills.
