What did Jaylen Brown say about Bronny James at NBA Summer League?

Jaylen Brown has had a relatively quiet summer after winning the NBA championship with the Boston Celtics. Since he wasn’t called up to the U.S. team for the Olympics, the 27-year-old forward has been spending time watching games in the NBA Summer League.

During the Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers match at the Thomas & Mack Center, Jaylen Brown was seen sitting next to his girlfriend Kysre Gondezick, and WNBA star Angel Reese watching the game. The TV camera unexpectedly captured an exchange between Jaylen Brown and the other two, which many believe was aimed at Bronny James, LeBron James’ son.

Some lip-reading experts quickly analyzed the conversation between Jaylen Brown and his girlfriend Kysre Gondezick and Angel Reese. Accordingly, the Boston Celtics player seemed to have sarcastically said to LeBron James’ eldest son: “I don’t think Bronny is a professional player.”

Even after Kysre Gondezick suggested that Bronny James might play in the G-League, Jaylen Brown continued: “I don’t think so. Just because of the last name James, he might play for the Los Angeles Lakers.”

An X (Twitter) account named BricksCenter shared this video, causing Jaylen Brown to speak up to correct: “LeBron James is a great player, having a son playing alongside him in the NBA. That reflects the greatness and longevity of LeBron James. Bronny has everything necessary to succeed, and I can’t wait to follow his journey of maturity.”

At this point, it is impossible to prove that Jaylen Brown made negative comments about Bronny James just by lip reading from a video. However, it is true that Bronny James played quite poorly in the NBA Summer League.

LeBron James’ son is being questioned about his ability to compete in a harsh environment like the NBA, when he only averages 5 points, 4.7 rebounds and has not had any successful 3-point shots up to now. Many even think that Bronny James will have difficulty playing well in the NBA G-League.

Jaylen Brown is also going through a tumultuous period. After Derrick White was called up to the US team to replace Kawhi Leonard due to injury, Jaylen Brown posted a series of tweets full of criticism of Nike, the main sponsor of the US at the Olympics. Many opinions say that the disagreement between Jaylen Brown and Nike is the reason why this player is not present in the US Olympic squad, despite being the best player in the 2024 NBA Finals series.
