WWE has historically been the home to many giants over the years. The Big Show, André The Giant, Yokozuna, Vader, Diesel, and many more have all laid claim to being some of the promotion’s best big men of all-time. In recent history, WWE has tried to establish Omos as one of those big-time giants. Standing at 7’3”, it is easy to see why WWE wanted to go down this route with him. However, many have been wondering where he has been.
For months, Omos has been absent from WWE television. He has not competed in a match since earlier this year. With him being gone for so long, where does this leave one of WWE’s biggest giants?
While they weren’t know for their technical skills, a few WWE giants were able to put on some great matches!
Omos Is One Of WWE’s Tallest Stars
Omos Is 7’3″
WWE always loved big men, but not everyone gets pushed to the moon. The company eventually gave up on these monsters and turned them into a joke.
Before Omos debuted in WWE, he was a standout college basketball player. He played for the University of South Florida, Morgan State University, and King University. From there, he joined WWE in 2019. Initially, he was put in many minor roles. He was aligned with Akira Tozawa and Shane McMahon at points in his career in NXT. However, by 2020, he was getting a more prominent role.
In 2020, Omos formed an alliance with AJ Styles. This endeavor proved to be beneficial for both of them. They defeated The New Day to become the RAW Tag Team Champions, and went on have a pretty dominant run with those championships as well, with a 133-day reign. But, after losing the championships, Omos floated around the card, without very many interesting feuds. Although he did find a new alliance with MVP, it did not do too much in terms of helping Omos move up in the WWE.
Omos Hasn’t Been Seen In WWE In Months
Omos Last Wrestled Before WrestleMania 40
The last match Omos competed in was the André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 40. Before that, he also did not wrestle any televised matches with the exception of the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match. It seems like WWE has mostly relegated Omos to these sorts of matches, and that has been the primary reason for the absence of the over seven foot giant.
Omos said himself on SEScoops back in February:
“You know, I’m an attraction, they call me when they need to make the big bucks, that’s when they call me when they need me.”
While some stars are booked more for bigger events and as bigger attractions for shows, that only works if they are megastars. The Rock, Roman Reigns, and John Cena are all examples of this in recent times with their part-time schedules. And while Omos is incredibly tall, that isn’t as important in this modern era of professional wrestling. He also has not grown a ton in terms of character development since his time in WWE.
WWE Is Lacking Direction With Omos
MVP Has Criticized WWE’s Use Of Omos
The Hurt Business is making their presence felt in AEW, but they cannot repeat the mistakes of the past in WWE.
MVP spoke about WWE’s booking of Omos at K&S Wrestlefest Virtual Signing. MVP, Omos’ former manager, said:
“I talked to Triple H about how he was being used, and Triple H was adamant that he didn’t want him to be another Big Show. He didn’t want him on TV every week. He wanted him to be an attraction and wanted to break him out periodically.” (h/t Fightful)
MVP further added:
“I don’t know what they plan on doing with him, but if you can’t take a legitimate 7-foot 3-inch, 385 pounds….if you can’t make money with a 7-foot 3-inch, 385-pound former basketball player that can move. You don’t see him move a lot because they don’t want him to. When he wants to move, you’d be surprised how well that big man can move. If you can’t make money with that then you’re just an idiot.”
MVP does have a point here. WWE could very much turn Omos into a giant that is presented as a major threat in WWE, but they need to have Omos featured more than just in a battle royal to show off what he can do in the ring. Take some of WWE’s most prominent big men right now in Braun Strowman and Bronson Reed. They have been doing some tremendous work and had one of the most memorable mid-card rivalries in recent RAW history.
While Omos is not at that point yet where he can be having those sorts of matches, WWE does need to do more in terms of helping him develop in the ring. His character could also use improvement as well. It is unknown when Omos will be back on television as of right now, but these long breaks from TV are not helping him.
