— — It wasn’t a big name like John Cena or Brock Lesnar that walked away with the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 31 on Sunday night.
It was Seth Rollins.
You may have heard the young wrestler’s name kicked around over the last few months, but who is the new champ?
1 – He Cashed In to Win
Rollins wasn’t booked on the title shot, it was Lesnar and Roman Reigns, but he cashed in using his Money in the Bank contract from an earlier event win to swoop in and snag the crown after the other two had worn each other out, according to SB Nation.
Lesnar was the champion, beating Cena at SummerSlam, now it’s Rollins. But we’ll see for how long!
2 – His Real Name Isn’t Seth Rollins
Rollins was born Colby Lopez in Buffalo, Iowa. He was also the former partner of Reigns and the two were Tag Team Champions as part of The Shield.
3 – He’s One of the Youngest Champs
Rollins, 28, is one of the first champions to win the title at Wrestlemania and actually be younger than the event itself. Wrestlemania has been a blockbuster event for 31 years now.
4 – He’s Big into Crossfit
Wonder how he gets so jacked?
Well, Rollins posts videos and pics as part of Team Collins for Crossfit. He’s pretty passionate about it.
“Doing my best post 15.5, bro-sesh Arnold impression,” he wrote earlier this week.
He even used Crossfit to prep for his championship!
5 – He’s Considered a Villain in the WWE
They call them “heels” or villains, and Rollins is the latest in wrestling. Just look how he won. Rollins waited until the right time to strike after his opponents were worn down and had beaten each other up.
Bleacher Report columnist Chris Roling even went as far as to write today: “It’s what the best cowardly heels do. They strike at the opportune time when the odds are heavy in their favor and succeed (or run away and try again).”
Roling continued, “Sit back now and enjoy how Rollins intends to counter Lesnar, Reigns, Orton, John Cena, Daniel Bryan and many more gunning for his top spot. And expect him to do so with a masterful plan.”
