WWE Legend Sid Eudy, aka Sid Vicious, Remembered by Wrestling Greats

On Aug. 26, it was announced that WWE legend Sid Eudy, also known as Sid Vicious, Sid Justice and Sycho Sid, had sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. He was just 63.

Known for his time in WWF and WCW, Eudy was a two-time WWF Champion and two-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

Since the announcement of his passing, numerous fans, colleagues, and wrestling organizations have paid tribute to the late wrestler, remembering him for his physique, charismatically unhinged performances, and one of the best power bombs in professional wrestling.

Booker T. Huffman, a five-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion and two-time WWE Hall of Famer, thanked Eudy for his contributions to the business as well as to his personal career.

“Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW,” Booker T said. “His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

WWE Legend and Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts also thanked Eudy for his contributions to professional wrestling.

“I’m shocked and saddened to learn that Sid Eudy passed away today,” Roberts said. “What an incredible look and presence. He certainly left his mark on our business. I send my prayers and best wishes to his family. RIP Sid.”

Former WWE Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley paid tribute to Eudy on Instagram.

“I just heard about the passing of Sid Eudy, of cancer, at age 63,” Foley said. “Sid and I first met when we worked the Memphis territory together in 1988, and shared some good times and long drives over the years. He had not only that amazing physique, but an incredible charisma that helped make him one of the biggest stars in both WWE and WCW.”

“I remember Shane Douglas telling me about Sid’s tryout match in WCW, and how within a couple minutes in the ring, lead booker Ric Flair turned to members of the booking committee and said, ‘he’s got it,’ making Sid one of the quickest signings in company [history]. I’m sending my very best wishes and prayers to his family at all those who loved him,” Foley said.

Steve Lombardi, also known as the Brooklyn Brawler, shared a recent video of Eudy.

“My last video of Sid ribbing my best friend Downtown Bruno in England, you will [be] missed my friend,” Lombardi said.

Shawn Michaels, who had multiple feuds with Eudy, remembered Sycho Sid for his affect on his career and presence.

“Saddened to learn of the passing of Sid Eudy,” Michaels said. “An unforgettable presence, and it can’t be overstated how big of a role he played in creating The Heartbreak Kid. His work, legacy, and influence will inspire our business for generations to come.”

Current WWE head of creative Triple H remembered Eudy for his intensity and connection with the audience.

“A two-time WWE Champion,” Triple H said. “The Master and Ruler of the World. Few performers in the history of our business have had the look, intensity and ability to connect with the audience quite like Sid. My thoughts are with Sid’s family, friends and fans.”

Diamond Dallas Page, a fellow Heavyweight Champion and WCW icon, remembered Eudy as someone special.

“Wow, I’m so sorry to hear that Sid Eudy has passed on,” Page said. “Sid had such a presence. When Sid Vicious stepped through the curtain, you knew you were looking at someone special. He had it all and he looked as impressive as anyone to ever enter the squared circle. I had no idea he was fighting a battle with cancer.”

“My deepest sympathies go out to his family. RIP brother,” Page wrote.

Finally, WWE paid tribute to Eudy on their official website.

“Known as The Master and Ruler of the World, Sid’s reputation as one of the toughest and most thrilling Superstars cemented his legacy in WWE, and his influence can still be seen in wrestling rings around the world,” the company noted.

Eudy is survived by his wife, Sabrina Paige, and sons, Frank Eudy and Gunnar Eudy.
