WWE Rumors: WrestleMania No Longer Top Priority for London amid Super Bowl Buzz

There has long been speculation about WWE eventually holding WrestleMania in London, but England’s capital city reportedly now has its sights set on another massive sporting event.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), London officials no longer view WrestleMania as a priority and are instead eyeing the possibility of a Super Bowl taking place at Wembley Stadium.

The report comes on the heels of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell getting asked last week at a fan forum about potentially staging a Super Bowl outside the United States one day.

Per the Associated Press’ Ken Maguire, Goodell didn’t shoot the idea down, saying: “We’ve always traditionally tried to play a Super Bowl in an NFL city—that was always sort of a reward for the cities that have NFL franchises. But things change. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if that happens one day.”

Should a Super Bowl occur outside the U.S., London would undoubtedly be the leading candidate to host it since the city has hosted NFL regular-season games annually since 2007.

The NFL has expanded its footprint on London as well, playing three games in the city in each of the past three seasons with Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium serving as the venues.

Back in July, London mayor Sadiq Khan posted a video on X, showing him meeting with WWE president Nick Khan and WWE head of creative Triple H:

Sadiq Khan noted that he spoke with the WWE officials about securing a WrestleMania in London, which would be the first WrestleMania ever held outside North America. He added that they had a “really productive” meeting and would have more talks in the future.

While a WrestleMania has yet to be held overseas, WWE has made it a point in recent years to expand its reach.

Since 2022, WWE has had premium live events in Saudi Arabia, Wales, Canada, Puerto Rico, England, Australia, France, Scotland and Germany.

A WrestleMania outside North America is the next logical step, although next year’s WrestleMania 41 is already set for Las Vegas, and WWE has committed to having a future WrestleMania in Indianapolis as well.

Even if the report is true regarding London placing more emphasis on the Super Bowl than WrestleMania right now, it won’t be a shock if the city lands both major events in the coming years.
