A popular WWE star has achieved a massive milestone with his current title reign that’s sure to get the fans buzzing. Oba Femi has officially become the longest-reigning NXT North American Champion, surpassing Wes Lee’s record.
Femi won the title back on the December 9, 2023, edition of the Tuesday night show, where he defeated Dragon Lee to capture the gold. He cashed in his NXT Breakout Tournament contract in the episode and quickly established himself as a major player on the brand. However, not many would have expected Oba Femi to have such a tremendous run with the North American Championship.
He sits firmly atop the mountain as the longest reigning champion in the title’s history at 270 days by surpassing the previous record set by Wes Lee, who held the gold for 269 days. Femi’s last title defense came at NXT: No Mercy on September 1, where he took down a spirited challenge from Tony D’ Angelo.
Considering how dominant the 26-year-old’s reign has been, it’s hard to imagine him losing his title anytime soon unless WWE wanted him on the main roster.
In a recent interview ahead of Bad Blood 2024, CM Punk was quizzed about potentially reviving his uber-popular stable, The Straight Edge Society, in WWE. The Second City Saint stated that he would be open to it if the faction was rebranded and name-dropped Oba Femi as one of the potential candidates to join the group.
“I don’t want to beat a dead horse, so it would have to be some sort of a variation on The Straight Edge Society. Maybe something a little bit similar, maybe named different. (…) I think the number one with a bullet to be with me in some form of a stable would be Oba [Femi].”
