WWE’s Most Heated Feud Could Be Settled Inside Hell In A Cell At Bad Blood

Key Takeaways

SummerSlam has been and gone and the main event is already set for WWE’s next PLE, Bash In Berlin. However, WWE may also have the closing match of the PLE after that penciled in too. Bad Blood will return for the first time in 20 years this October, and if the rumors are true, its return will feature a blockbuster main event – a Hell in a Cell match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk.

Hell In A Cell’s Anniversary

That’s according to WRKD Wrestling, and with no end in sight for the heated feud between McIntyre and Punk, it would not be surprising for the two of them to remain at each other’s throats until they get the chance to step inside Hell in a Cell. It would also make sense for a Hell in a Cell match to feature on the show for a couple of reasons. The most notable being the first Bad Blood back in 1997 was the backdrop for the first-ever Hell in a Cell match, and this year’s Bad Blood will take place on that show’s 27th birthday.

The PLE carrying the Hell in a Cell name has also been dropped from WWE’s schedule after running once a year, every year from 2009 until 2022. WWE didn’t confirm this, but it seems the show has been left in the past so Hell in a Cell matches don’t need to be shoehorned into storylines at the same time every year. Instead, they’re being saved for when they feel appropriate, and if Punk and McIntyre are still making each other’s lives hell two months from now, having them settle their differences inside Hell in a Cell would make a lot of sense.

How Did Punk And McIntyre Get Here?

Punk attacks McIntyre MITB

McIntyre finally got some points on the board against Punk at SummerSlam after months of the veteran costing him the World Title at every conceivable turn. McIntyre became World Champion at WrestleMania only to lose the title minutes later, taken out by Punk and left for Damian Priest who cashed in his Money in the Bank. McIntyre won Money in the Bank a few months later and after inserting himself into a World Title match the same night, Punk popped up to make sure his contract was squandered.

Even though Punk wasn’t even able to wrestle McIntyre until SummerSlam due to a triceps injury, their feud has been one of the hottest in WWE so far this year. I’m very happy to hear that not only will it continue, but it will likely come to an end inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood. With Seth Rollins a key player in the angle who hates both men, maybe Punk a little bit more than McIntyre, it will be interesting to see what role he plays in the Hell in a Cell match if he has a role to play at all.
